Egypt: Broadway at Cairo Opera
American Voices' Michael Parks Masterson, Ira Spaulding and John Ferguson spent four weeks in Cairo from June 9 to July 8 preparing 5 concerts at the Cairo and Alexandria Opera Houses with a cast of 60 vocalists, dancers and actors. In concerts beamed live to millions of Egyptians on Nile TV, the mixed professional and student cast outdid themselves in a lively evening of Broadway highlights.
Participating institutions included the Cairo and Alexandria Opera Houses, Cairo American University, The Cairo Conservatory and the Cairo Opera Talent Program.
In addition to the program at Cairo Opera, special piano workshops and music score donations were arranged with the Cairo Conservatory and dance workshops were help for disadvantaged children by Michael Parks and Brian Jones.
The project was sponsored entirely by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo with support from the Cairo Opera House and Nile TV.
