Denmark: Hip Hop Dance with Rosie and Isaac
For 20 days in May and June, American Voices’ Hip Hop and Break Dancers Isaac Barron and Rosie Bichon worked together in a multi-cultural sports and integration project, which over the last six years has offered a combination of street basketball and hip-hop to youth between the ages of 12 and 25 in Denmark's ethnically diverse, low-income housing developments. GAM3 seeks to promote integration of young first- and second-generation immigrants through weekly practices in local neighborhoods, training camps (called Street GAM3), and a yearly final at Copenhagen's Town Hall Square, as well as to create more interest in basketball, club sports, and street culture among target youth. GAM3 received Copenhagen Municipality's Integration Prize in 2003 and has had more than 10,000 youth participate in its programs since the program's start in 2002.
