India: HaviKoro Break Dancers
HaviKoro visited New Delhi at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section. Their two-day program included five events reaching an estimated total live audience of approximately 5000.
One program highlight was the workshop with the students of Danceworx, a private school for jazz and modern dance in New Delhi. These students and young professionals amazed all with their professionalism and enthusiasm for learning a new style of dance. This was an exceptionally talented and open minded group of dancers.
The HaviKoro concert at the Sri Sathya Sai International Center included performances by a local youth vocal ensemble, Artistes Unlimited, and the DanceWorx ensemble. The audience of 1000 included approximately 300 disadvantaged youth from low-income neighborhoods of Delhi who were most thrilled by the performance.
The second day of HaviKoro's program took them to the Centerstage Mall in Noida where they performed two events in the afternoon and evening reaching an audience of 3500. Notable was the enthusiasm of the audience members when it came time to learning some Break Dancing steps and HaviKoro's adeptness at learning some Bollywood moves!
The program was co-sponsored by Red FM and SPAN magazine and funded entirely by the U.S. Embassy and a grant from the U.S. Department of State.
