Belarus: Jazz in Belarus
Jazz vocalist Deborah Brown and pianist Mike Del Ferro attracted an overflow crowd to the Grand Hall of the Minsk Philharmonic with an extraordinary concert entitled 'Jazz from J to Z' on June 9th. One concert highlight featured the participation of Belarusian saxophonist Pavel Arakelian in a joint performance with the American Voices duo.
In a three-day program funded entirely by the U.S. Embassy in Minsk the celebrated duo also shared their expertise with a large audience gathered for their masterclass at the Union for Musicians Hall at the Glebau Music School. Other activities included radio interviews with Unistar Radio, Kultura Weekly and the Jazz Quadrat magazine. Other performances included an invitational event at Amb. Krol's residence.
This program was the fifth program performed in Belarus by American Voices since 2002. A joint program with the choir of the Music Academy of Minsk is highlighted on the CD 'American Voices Around the World'.
