Vietnam: Broadway Evening
Broadway in Vietnam
American Voices continues its commitment to music education and the cultural life of Vietnam with the historic first performances of Broadway by Vietnamese and American singers in Saigon on March 28th and 29th.
Two weeks of intensive rehearsals led to a semi-staged concert performance of highlights from American musical theatre. Such repertoire was a first for Vietnamese audiences and even more so for the young singers of the vocal department of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory! What can we say….They Rocked!
Both nights of performances were greeted by overflowing crowds and wild enthusiasm. The young singers outdid themselves, especially when one considers their limited experience with English language and musical theatre styles, movement and acting.
This project was a huge team effort with American Voices artists converging from around the globe for two weeks of intensive work together with a cast of 30 young singers. American Voices would especially like to thank Davidson College in North Carolina for making faculty member Jacquelyn Culpepper available for this project, the US Embassy for its logistical, moral and financial support and our team of international sponsors: Citigroup, Johnson and Johnson, APL, GlassEgg Digital, Lufthansa, Hotel Equatorial, Hanoi Daewoo Hotel and the Saigon Town and Country Club.
