Best of Bernstein in Malta
Visits to Malta are an annual tradition of American Voices and every program and project have been a real pleasure. After last years, Porgy and Bess and the Malta Jazz Festival, this year’s ‘Best of Bernstein’ concert with the National Orchestra under the baton of American Voices’ David Handel was an huge success.
The orchestra was joined by American Voices’ soloists, soprano Kathryn Magestro and our Bernstein specialist, Kurt Ollmann. (Kurt sings the role of Riff in the Deutsche Grammophone recording of West Side Story, as well as other recordings of his musicals and operas)
The concert featured orchestra highlights such as the ‘Symphonic Dances’ from West Side Story and vocal selections from Concert Suites from West Side Story, On the Town, Candide and others.
This project was another elaborate and successful team effort lead by the excellent team at the US Embassy, General Electric, Melita Cable, MIDI, and Air Malta.
