Uzbekistan: West Side Story
Uzbekistan - Broadway in Tashkent, West Side Story
American Voices visited the Central Asian republic of Uzbekistan
with a project entitled 'Broadway in Tashkent' featuring Leonard Bernstein's 'West Side Story'.
The performances were coached and prepared by American Voices director, John Ferguson and baritone/conductor Ira Spaulding. The soloists and ensemble singers consisted entirely of young Uzbek singers from the Conservatory and Opera Studio training programs.
Other aspects of the project include the donation of American music scores, masterclasses for singers and pianist in the American repertoire and TV and radio appearances.
