A concert of the best of the Southern Blues tradition

Mississippi Blues Night

The Blues originated in the south of the United States in the late 19th century as an African-American folk tradition. Originally performed in a simple folk style, this music was often used for sacred texts as well and led to the development of gospel singing. Once the Blues migrated to the big cities of the south however, its original folk style merged with the early jazz and 'the rest is Blues history'.

This concert takes the listener through these one hundred years of the Blues with songs that were sung as the music migrated throughout the USA: traditional Southern Blues, New Orleans Blues, Kansas City Blues, Chicago Blues, Rhythm and Blues, etc.

Sample Repertoire:

Dr. Feelgood
Never Make Your Move Too Soon
Stormy Monday
Saturday Night Fish Fry
Unchain My Heart
