YES Academy Debuts in Syria

The first YES Academy Syria drew audiences of over 4000 at Dummar Cultural Theater with performances by the YES Chamber Orchestra, Hip Hop, Break Dancing, Children's Theater, Piano, Opera, Broadway and much more
On July 24 and 25, the YES Academy Syria gala concerts took place in Damascus' premiere outdoor venue, the Dummar Cultural Theater with performances by over 150 student participants and 12 U.S. and European faculty. The full amphitheater welcomed young performers from throughout Syria to the stage in rousing performances of Karl Jenkin's Palladio, George Gershwin's Lullaby, Copland's Hoedown and a Divertimento by Mozart by the YES Chamber Orchestra. The classical and jazz gala continued with classical performances by pianist Dr. Bradley Bolen, soprano Anna Maria Condacse and the All Damascus Big Band under the direction of Dr Gene Aitken and Spanish saxophonist Mariano Abello.

The concert on July 25 continued with Broadway, Hip Hop, Break Dancing and Children's Theater performances by the YES faculty and young dancers, actors and musicians from across Syria. Participants attended from not only Damascus but also Aleppo, Qamlishli, Homs and Suwaida.

Additionally, a chamber music, voice and piano recital was held at the Higher Institute of Music on the evening of July 23 for an audience of over 200.

The program featured U.S. faculty representing the best universities and cultural institutions of the United States ranging from St Louis Symphony Orchestra and HaviKoro Break Dancers to Baylor University, Oklahoma State University and Eastern Carolina State University.

The program was broadcast nationally and internationally by Syrian public and private television to millions of households throughout the Middle East.

The YES Academy Iraq was supported by the Levant Foundation (Jamal Daniel Family), the Ministry of Culture of the Syrian Arab Republic, The Embassy of the United States and DHL Nahza Travel and Freight.
