American Voices artists currently in Juba, Southern Sudan
American Voices' Executive Director and vocalist Michael Parks Masterson are currently in Juba, Southern Sudan building bridges with Sudanese traditional and pop musicians in a first-ever program by U.S. performers in the region. Wracked by decades of civil war and regional strife, Southern Sudan and the city of Juba are now emerging as a vibrant center in the region. On Wednesday November 20, American Voices will present a concert featuring collaborations with local traditional musicians (vocalists, Calimba and Adungo), pop musicians such as the Freedom Boys and members of the University of Juba Music Department faculty. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Southern Sudan Musicians and Artists Union and the Nyakuron Cultural Center. The program is supported by the U.S. Embassy to Sudan.
