Vocal Masterclasses for all levels and repertoire
A masterclass is an exciting learning experience for any aspiring musician. A relaxed atmosphere provides young students with the opportunity to meet and hear professional performers who are not only experts in their field, but are respected and well known in international circles. The master teachers will counsel and coach singers and pianists of all levels providing new insights and encouragement for their future musical endeavors.
Part of the American Voices masterclass experience includes an emphasis on the delight in discovery as well the discipline required in learning and mastering a craft. In a congenial learning atmosphere, the artist teachers encourage students to a greater understanding of diverse American musical styles as well as a better comprehension of the strengths and weaknesses of their own musicianship and artistry.
In an ambiance of relaxed fun and exploration, the technical side of a masterclass for singers will concentrate on a better understanding of the basics of singing – support, breathing and healthy use of the whole body. In seeking to create a better understanding of American musical style, the class will focus on American repertoire and diction as well as singing in both classical and popular musical styles. Students will also be given the opportunity to perform their standard operatic and art song repertoire in any language or style.
In masterclasses for pianists the emphasis will be on the exploration of the American repertoire and the particular challenges it offers in terms of style, interpretation and technique. The repertoire covered will represent the diversity of American music – from ragtime and other popular styles to the music of Gershwin, Ives, Copland and contemporary composers. Participating students will be asked to prepare at least one American composition and, time permitting, will also be able to perform from their standard repertoire.
Comments for our masterclasses:
“ Teresa Seidl’s masterclass was superb! With high energy, verve and humor she had an intuitive way at clueing into each singers’ personality and vocal status. Without intimidating she quickly offered solutions in a clear, straight forward manner - a wonderful master teacher!”
