Saxophonist & Big Band Leader


Werner Englert

The German saxophonist, arranger and composer Werner Englert is widely known to European audiences from his many concerts with Sax ‘n Hop and other ensembles. He has participated in both the 2002 and 2003 Caspian Jazz and Blues Festivals as soloist and Big Band Leader.

In his native Germany he is equally renowned for his saxophone playing as for his work as conductor, composer and arranger for Big Bands. His many achievements in this area of Jazz include the founding of the Free Dig Big Band and the Rock and Jazz School ‘MUSIK-LAB’.

A frequent guest professor at the Hochschule Fuer Musik in Stuttgart, he has also been guest teacher at Jazz and Big Band workshops at the National Academy of Remscheid and the International Association of Jazz Educators in Boston. His publications include several volumes for music in the public schools “Rondo 7/8 and 9/10” as well as the music therapy manual, ‘Creative Therapy’.
