Welcome to American Voices
We are just back from our third project in Iraq – jazz and classical workshops in Suleimaniya and Erbil, Northern Iraq, where we brought thirty days of workshops and three public performances to over 300 young Iraqi musicians. It was great to see our Unity Academy 2007 Alumni again and welcome over 100 new students into our program. I was also a pleasure to greet the large and enthusiastic audiences that jammed into halls to hear performances of Herbie Hancock, Eubie Blake and Johannes Brahms.
In other news, American Voices went on a groundbreaking Hip Hop dance program in Western China, worked with film festivals in the Philippines and are gearing up for Jazz Bridges programs in Togo and Senegal. Please check our projects pages for news of our most recent activities!
For more information about the Unity Academy 2007, please see more in our Newsletter or on our Projects and Video pages devoted to these very special days spent in Erbil with young artists from throughout the country. You may also view an ABC Nightly News Report on the Unity Academy.

American Voices’ work is also drawing attention in major print media in the United States. We invite you to read the recent Op-Ed piece by Executive Director John Ferguson published by the Christian Science Monitor.
Since 1992, our mission has been to further the appreciation and understanding of American music and culture, especially in developing countries, countries emerging from conflict or periods of isolation and those lacking opportunities for cultural exchange and dialogue with the United States.
